Butter Bars

Updated: Dec 15, 2018

Do you need to provide something at the last minute for a bake sale? Maybe you want a way to sincerely thank someone but you are short on time. My go to treat are these Ooey Gooey Butter Bars from Paula Deen.

Six ingredients, one pan, one mixing bowl. I love treats like this!

Ingredients

1 package yellow cake mix

3 egg

2 sticks of butter, melted

1 (8 oz) package softened cream cheese

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 (16 oz) box powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 °F.

Make Batter

Combine the cake mix, 1 egg and 8 tablespoons of melted butter and mix well with an electric mixer, scraping down the sides at least once. Press the thick batter into the bottom of a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.

Make Topper

Clean out the mixing bowl and beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add 2 eggs, vanilla and remaining 8 tablespoons of butter and beat together, scraping down the sides at least once. Next, add the powdered sugar and mix well on low until blended well.

Cook and Chill

Spread the topper over the cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake; the center should be a little gooey.

Chill in the fridge for a few hours. Add a few tablespoons of powdered sugar to a mesh strainer and tap lightly over top of the pan to dust the top. Slice into generous squares and make someone's day.
